The AND Hap exhibitions are temporary meeting areas that periodically open the AND Lab Space to the outside, inviting the public to be accomplices and participants in unique situations of sharing what is happening here in terms of creation and research. The AND Hap exhibitions are activated several times a year, hosting, in the form of happenings, different types of events, ranging from open rehearsals and process displays of the residencies hosted at the Space to proposals such as interventions and performances, lectures and conferences, gatherings and parties, etc. In addition, we also activate the AND Hap interface to periodically share our emerging artifacts and to mark the beginnings and ends of each season of our programming.
The project "Que(m) sabe de que(m) sou feita" (Who knows of who I'm made of), by visual artist Bete Esteves (Brazil), began in 2023, during a residency at Trust Collective and Espaço AND Lab, with personalized guidance through direct application of MO_AND by Fernanda Eugenio, as part of the Crafting Programme.
As the culmination of two years of longitudinal monitoring with Fernanda Eugenio, between September and October 2025 the artist returned to Portugal to undertake a new phase of the project, in dialogue with the AND concept tool of Re-membration – a gesture that is simultaneously remembrance and re-membering. During this phase, the artist travels through cities in northern Portugal, tracing the route Porto – Ovar – Grada – Viseu – Fafe – Gaia. Carrying magnetic ceramic "dice," Bete visits previously mapped buildings to propose an exchange of information: in each city, she will attempt to establish a conversation with the stranger who opens the door. Each participant, in each city, chooses one of the six cubes and throws it onto a board marked by themes permeated by echoes of ancestry and art history: self-portrait, war, sex, religion, death, and life. The throw defines the subject to be unveiled, guiding the conversation and sealing the symbolic exchange.
At the same time, at each stop on the journey, the artist performs a gesture of unearthing, collecting pavement stones destined to compose a new expanded rosary design. Thus, the journey unfolds as a game, ritual, and reconciliation: throwing, exchanging, disillusioning, and reterritorializing memories.
At the end of the month-long tour, the artist will return to Trust Collective for a residency to process emerging matter, from October 20 to 27, 2025, again with the guidance of Fernanda Eugenio, as part of AND Lab's Crafting Programme.
The experience will be shared as an installation and talk with the public in an open session.
The activity is free, with no need to register but subject to availability.
__________
Bete Esteves lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. She received her PhD in Visual Languages from UFRJ in 2018, where she also completed her master's degree in 2009/2011. With a degree in Visual Programming from PUC/RJ (1986), the artist, imbued with the concept of groupality, carries out transdisciplinary installation art projects with mechanisms, objects, photography, drawings, and videos. She deals with issues related to ambience in exhibition spaces. By carrying out artistic occupations in unconventional places, she explores situations that go beyond the already mapped relationships between art and viewer. As she moves, in a reality with which she becomes entangled, she triggers an atmosphere and what one perceives is that the artist escapes norms without, however, ceasing to question them. By meddling with the lives and things that inhabit the ‘environmental laboratories’ she encounters, bete expands the forms of relationships she establishes with the environment, generating intimacy with other worlds and other modes of existence.ociation and director of the Agadá Cia de Dança Afro Contemporânea, he works in Lisbon at the intersection of art, spirituality and activism, exploring love and ancestral technologies as drivers of creation.
