Nearer and Nearer
Programme for Multiplying Encounters with the Modus Operandi AND
Near and Nearer [De Perto em Perto] is a programme focused on multiplying points of dialogue with the methodology developed at the AND Lab, the Modus Operandi AND (MO_AND).
Near and Nearer is an expression that belongs to the lexicon of MO_AND, evoking ideas and experiences of neighbourhood, approximation, proximity, and tentative action.
The programme’s name signals a desire to reach an ever-wider range of people and situations, committing to adapting the MO_AND tools to the specificities of each invited, visited, or hosted group.
By rehearsing modes of hospitality, Near and Nearer is primarily concerned with imagining and designing activities that bring MO_AND into contact with other projects and diverse contexts, placing it in conversation with other practices, methodologies, research processes, and constellations of people.
This line of inquiry is sustained by a set of guiding questions, including: which aspects of the Modus Operandi AND can be activated in which contexts? What adjustments can be made to the transmission and communication of MO_AND to broaden access and improve accessibility? How do these dialogues operate through practices of detachment and (un)learning? Which gestures of unfolding can be found reciprocally?

The programme’s activities include proximity-based actions oriented towards dialogue with neighbourhoods—whether geographical or thematic; experimental actions that inaugurate new forms of dialogue and risk further ramifications for the research; and sustained investigations that support and rearticulate long-term interlocutions. At the end of each annual cycle, ongoing actions and investigations are shared.
Programme activities and collaborations launched in 2025, which will form the 2026 season calendar. | Corpoemcadeia is an artistic project for social inclusion and transformation operating within the prison system.
