School of Reparar Ed#6-2025

May to July 2025 (Extended to September for Resident Artists)

Callings and Glimmers: the restitution of the gift

The continued axis of the School of Reparar 2025 proposes a condensed program with a total duration of three or five months. It consists of two training modules, a research-creation module at the AND Lab Space in Lisbon, and a retreat module at the Trust Collective Space in the village of Barril de Alva, Arganil, Beira Interior.

The program was redesigned to allow different types of participation, either in the entire program (as a resident artist or as a full participant) or just in some modules (partial or single participation).

In linking the different modules, the new continuum allows for an intimate relationship to be built with the Modus Operandi AND, offering a complete training process that covers its entire constellation of games and tools, combined with an in-depth experience of the ritual dimension of the practice. It also incorporates, for the first time, the possibility of participating as a resident artist in the School's research-creation plan, in a process of individual creation in position-with the theme-issue of the year, with accompaniment by Fernanda Eugenio and final presentation at AND Lab em Festa.

The 6th edition of the School of Repair thus inaugurates a general redistribution of the programme which is now articulated along two axes, continued and nomad, and along 3 lines-interfaces of relationship with the Modus Operandi AND: hANDling (modules focusing on transmission-sharing and game-practices), (under)stANDing (modules focusing on research-creation and the game-ritual intersection), LANDscape (modules focusing on self/repairing and ritual experiences).

You can access the details for the different modalities in the registration links below.

CONTENT OF THE 2025 MODULES

hANDling

Our journey begins with a hANDling Intensive Workshop training module, on May 10 and 11, Saturday and Sunday, from 2pm to 8pm, at the AND Lab Space in Lisbon, dedicated to offering participants an introduction to the inhabited philosophy of the Modus Operandi AND. This module will present the main conceptual-tools that make up the ethical guidelines of the practice and the basic principles of the AND board game. This workshop is led by Fernanda Eugenio, creator of MO_AND and director of AND Lab.

As well as being part of the full training course, this module also allows partial participation (this module + the next) or individual participation.

This will be followed by a  hANDling Extensive Laboratory training module, made up of 9 meetings of the unfolding of the Modus Operandi AND, held weekly from May 15 to July 17, always on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the AND Lab Space in Lisbon, which will cover the MO_AND Games constellation distributed in the Interference Zone (focusing on the relational dynamics of society, community and intimacy), the Transference Zone (focusing on the formulation and embodiment of affection) and the Care-Curation Zone (focusing on the body-soma as a territory of repair). The sessions are led by Fernanda Eugenio and/or Mariana Pimentel, assistant director of AND Lab, coordinator of the AND Lab Brazil Network and member of the AND Collective.

As well as being part of the full training program, this module also allows partial participation (combined with the previous module).

LANDscape

The training process ends with a LANDscape Course-Retreat module, which directly addresses the 2025 theme-issue, proposing an in-depth process of self-repair with a focus on the ritual dimension of MO_AND, although it also includes the practice of games, with an emphasis on those that take the body-territory as their zone of attention. Lasting one week, from July 25 to August 2, it is the only activity of the School to take place outside the AND Lab Space. It takes place in immersive mode, in the small village of Barril de Alva, Arganil, Beira Interior, hosted by the Trust Collective space, involving studio and outdoor practices

Each LANDscape is an unrepeatable experience, for which a unique dramaturgy is created that articulates different somatic-political and ritual practices in a single durational experience-piece, with the guiding thread being a performative-transformative process that brings together the theme-issue of the year and the matter of each participant's intimacy.

The 2025 edition will focus on the states-of-encounter Callings and Glimmers, as well as the modulation of Restitution that makes up the gesture of Reparar, and will be led by Fernanda Eugenio, with the support of the companion practices brought by two members of the AND Collective: Mariana Pimentel, with Re-Joining Practices, and Manoela Rangel, with Tra(d)ição [Betrayal+Tradition] Practices

As well as being part of the full training course, this module also allows for individual participation.

(under)stANDing

In parallel to the training process, the research-creation module (under)stANDing Resident Artists in Creation runs from May 16 to September 21, consisting of 6 assisted creation sessions with Fernanda Eugenio, on Fridays from 10am to 5pm; space for autonomous work in the studio (7 Saturdays throughout the process and 23 days of summer residency in August) and a final presentation as part of AND Lab em Festa.

Through this new module, we want to open up the possibility of creating with MO_AND while it (re)creates itself, allowing a small group of interested people to join Fernanda Eugenio each year as part of her research-creation, which is always in process and constantly (re)formulating new concept-tools, games, ritual propositions and other artifacts. The process involves an auto-ethnographic work in which each resident artist is invited to map the ways in which the year's theme-issue manifests itself in their affections and, from there, is accompanied by Fernanda Eugenio, using MO_AND tools, in the construction of an individual artifact that can take on any interface (performative, installation, visual, audio, audiovisual, etc.), depending on each person's areas of interest and work. The process ends with the public sharing of the creations as part of AND Lab em Festa.

This module is additional to the full training course and allows up to 3 resident artists per edition of the program

THE ISSUE-THEME 2025

About the new concept tools Restitution, Callings and Glimmers

The School of Reparar 2025, the 6th edition of the program, invites you on another journey of experiential, collective and embodied research around the intimate-collective processes of repairing. This time, the proposal is to enter the research through the prism of the new tool-concept of Restitution, one of the many modulations of the reparative gesture, which acts where the Irreparable manifests itself, in infinitely varied doses, as a plunder that is both (ir)remediable and (in)compensable to the vital gift.

We want to search for ways to repair a sensitive access to the complex and intricate web of inseparability through which we co-participate and are co-participated, reciprocally, in/by everything that exists, in the confidence that a body of political involvement in repairing the systemic Irreparable can (re)find its sustaining and proliferating force there. Recognizing that it is at the level of the body-soma that the Irreparable is lodged, and that it is from there that it makes each person a vector for its perpetuation, we insist on investigating the key question that drives the Modus Operandi AND - how to let die the system in us without dying? - as a commitment to the never-ending work of re-orienting our ways of existing, relating and living in the direction of respecting and honoring Life.

To unnumb and restore a sensibility to the Event as a Gift - that which is given in the very act of happening, and as so becomes, in a single gesture, presence and present - is to work on the microscopic curation of lives that are less adjusted and more just, less efficient and more sufficient, less exhausted and also less dull. And thus also more available to enjoy and provide enjoyment, to care for and be cared for.

Furthermore, recognizing the gift opens the way to acknowledge oneself in return and strengthens a body of refusal to continue participating in the endorsement and reiteration of entrenched systemic violence that never ceases to corrupt the gift into debt and doubt in the World-As-It-iIs. So restoring the gift also restores contact with one's own power-agency, in a process of intimate reconciliation between possibility and responsibility that allows freedom to be regained in the situated exercise of dis-cern-ment. To linger in this process, to savor this (un)learning, consists of taking back one's own presence-present, and reclaiming the spiral operative mode of giving-receiving-reciprocating, recovering the integrity that allows to make of each giving a reciprocation mediated by a receiving, also receiving oneself back each time, from what one give. An exercise in letting go and detachment; in surrender and trust; in remedial listening between radical intra- and inter-relationship differences; in affective and imaginative expansion based on letting-manifest the incarnate, ancestral and cosmic, historical and subjective wisdoms that give consistency (consist and co-insist) to the provisional aggregates we call Self, Other and Situation.

After a few years of (un)learning from the wisdom of the air and winged beings, in which we have been experimenting with the states of Nest and Flock and their (co)operations Alight and Flight, in the search for antidotes to the anxious and depressive affections of contemporary helplessness and disenchantment, we now summon, for the durational process of research-creation of 2025, the wisdoms of water and aqueous-aquatic beings, and a delay in the states-of-encounter of Callings and Glimmers

Throughout this year, we invite you to inhabit these states as portkeys for the sensing of inseparability, searching the cosmos of each one and of the in-between-many for ways of repairing dissociated links and knots of identification through (de)integration. Each in their own way, both are marks of the Irreparable that have blocked the intensive-extensive access to the multidimensional integrity that constitutes, with only a variation in scale, each living being and the interweaving of the Living.

On the level of the Callings, we want to experience interspecific modes of communication and co(n)sensing, beyond verbal language, gesture and human expressiveness. On the level of Glimmers, we want to attend (co)operations between Glimpse and Dazzle that can open up relational passages, transversal to the illusion of linear time, to the enchanted and (im)permanent vibration of the Common Fund of Life, the unknown-unknowable hidden in the obvious of everything that exists.
